(Los Angeles) The balls that Joaquin Niemann hit didn’t find the fairway in the last two hours at Riviera Golf Club and it didn’t matter. He still returned a 68 (minus-3) to set a new mark after 54 holes and give himself a three-stroke priority at the Genesis Invitation.

24-year-old American rookie Cameron Young tried to keep the race exciting until he scored a double bogey at 16and pennant. He added 69 (-2) and virtually takes second place.
Joining them in the lead pack, 24-year-old Norwegian Viktor Hovland is six strokes behind Niemann, despite a day of eight birdies. He handed over a 65 (month-6) card on Saturday.
Niemann, a 23-year-old Chilean, is looking for his second victory on the PGA Tour. He needs another round of under 70 strokes to smash the tournament mark, which has stood longer than any other such record on the PGA Course.
Niemann had 194 shots (minus-19) after Saturday’s round. He beat the mark after 54 holes set by Justin Thomas, in 2017, by two strokes.
The final group on Sunday will feature three players from three different continents. They were all born after tournament presenter Tiger Wood’s first victory at the Masters Tournament in 1997.
