The Omicron variant, which is sweeping across Europe, will be dominant from mid-January. In France, the fifth and sixth waves should collide. A health defense council is convened on Friday, December 17, to decide on new measures.

The holiday season promises to be critical in hospitals. If the peak of the fifth wave linked to the Delta variant may have been reached, it is now the arrival of the Omicron that worries. The outbreak is rapid in Europe, and in France, the number of intensive care units is constantly increasing. “The pressure will continue to increase over the next few weeks. We should exceed 3,000 patients with Covid in intensive care very quickly, and reach 4,000 patients with Civid in intensive care around the holidays”government spokesman Gabriel Attal said on Wednesday (December 15th).

A health defense council will be held on Friday, December 17. The preferred slopes do not currently retain new restrictions, but rather recommendations for the end of the year holidays. Emmanuel Macron wishes in particular to accelerate the vaccine campaign, by shortening the time to receive a booster dose, and plans to strengthen border controls.
