(Trois-Rivières) The president of the Coalition d’avenir Québec (CAQ), Sarah Beaumier, does not rule out running as a candidate in Marie-Victorin.
At the end of the party’s general council on Sunday, she told Press that formal discussions have not been undertaken to date. She did not hide her interest in representing the CAQ in the constituency of Longueuil which became vacant following the election of Catherine Fournier as mayor.
“I do not exclude it”, to wear the colors of the party in Marie-Victorin, affirmed Mme Beaumier, who works for an electric car manufacturer.
A possible candidacy of Mme Beaumier began to make people talk following remarks made by Prime Minister François Legault at a press conference alongside its president.
In English, he said he was confident of having more than two seats on the Island of Montreal in the next election. “Including …”, he added, turning to Mr.me Beaumier and interrupting himself immediately. “OK, I didn’t say anything. ”
Saturday, he announced that his party will be racing in Marie-Victorin with “probably” a woman in the ranks. The by-election will take place “after Christmas” in 2022.
Mme Beaumier represented the CAQ in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve in 2018. This marketing specialist, mother of three young children, became party president a year ago.
According to a biography posted on the CAQ website, Sarah Beaumier has a bachelor’s degree in commerce from Concordia University and a master’s degree in marketing from the École des Hautes Etudes Commerciales (HEC) of the University of Montreal. She has previously worked in marketing and management, notably at Merck Canada, Novo Nordisk, at the Consulate General of Canada in New York, in Globe and Mail and at the Touché agency!
Take nothing for granted
It was time to celebrate at the General Council, as the CAQ celebrated its 10th anniversary. The menu, on the theme of the regions, avoided any controversy and the proposals were consensual.
In his closing address, François Legault invited the 850 activists and members of the political staff not to be put to sleep by the polls.
Of course, it’s nice to see the polls, but nothing should be taken for granted. The confidence of Quebecers must be earned.
