(Villepinte) Taiwanese Lin Yu-ting, one of two fighters at the heart of a gender controversy in the Olympic boxing tournament, secured a medal by qualifying Sunday for the semi-finals of the Olympic Games (-57 kg) against Bulgarian Svetlana Kamenova Staneva.
Despite the aggressiveness of her opponent, most often on the offensive, Lin Yu-ting kept her calm and waited to take advantage of the openings, counting on the fatigue that was setting in over time for the Bulgarian.
This fight had a special flavor for the two women, who had met in the quarterfinals of the World Championships in 2023.
Lin Yu-ting had won the fight, but following her disqualification by the International Boxing Association (IBA) for failing a “biochemical test” for femininity, the result was subsequently overturned. Svetlana Staneva was awarded a bronze medal in her place.
