Activists against the A69 motorway in Tarn have “threatened with a knife” gendarmes Monday October 16, says the Tarn prefecture in a press release. The police were mobilized to dislodge activists installed in trees located on the route of the future highway, while deforestation operations resumed on Monday October 16.

“There was no threat with knives”defends Thomas Brail on Tuesday October 17 in the morning on France 2. The activist, founder of the National Tree Surveillance Group (GNSA), an association which fights against the A69 motorway project, assures that a climber “wanted to cut his rope to climb the tree”. “Each climber is equipped with a knife to cut their rope, these are mandatory safety measures”he explains.

Several activists were arrested and placed in police custody, indicates the prefecture, without specifying the number of people concerned. In a video posted on Instagram, two GNSA activists affirmed on the evening of Monday October 16 that “five friends” were in police custody. Activists say they have been “pointed three times at the LBD” by law enforcement. There are always two of them “climbers” installed in the trees Tuesday, October 17 in the morning, according to Thomas Brail.
