In Egypt, in a port near the Gaza Strip, injured Gazans are treated by French medical teams aboard the Dixmude helicopter carrier.

The very first images of the Dixmude helicopter carrier in the Egyptian port of Al-Arish, near the Gaza Strip, arrive. On board this warship are 80 doctors and nurses, soldiers, but also civilians. They are caring for tens of thousands of wounded people from Gaza, like Abad, who arrived in mid-December. “The French treat us like members of our family. They give us all the care we need“, explains the 19-year-old young man.

Psychological care

Caregivers face immense suffering. One in two children is an amputee. “We had a lot of closed, prostrate, a little stunned faces, whether children or parents“, says Doctor Pierre, pediatrician at Annecy hospital and military reservist. 100 patients were operated on and hospitalized.

We also deal with psychological injuries. “It is important for us and for them, what we can create in the exchange, and to bring humanity back into their current suffering.” testifies Doctor Aurélie, psychiatrist in the army health service. The Minister of the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu, visited the site on Sunday December 31.
