Gausman records first career shutout in 7-0 Blue Jays win

Kevin Gausman recorded his first shutout in 12 years in the majors and the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Oakland Athletics 7-0 on Saturday.

“I thought we were good at bats throughout the game,” Blue Jays manager John Schneider said. We were patient at the plate and made really good contact. It was a pretty complete match. »

Gausman only gave up five hits.

The 33-year-old tied his season high with 10 strikeouts, allowing just one walk.

Gausman threw 109 pitches, surpassing the 100-pitch plateau for the fourth time this season.

Gausman had never pitched for a full nine-inning game in the majors before.

“It’s always good to be able to give the relievers a day off,” Gausman said. You don’t see as many shutouts these days, so to get that first shutout of your career, 12 years after you started it, it’s even more special. »

Gausman (5-4) gave up fewer than two runs for the eighth time in 13 starts this season.

Kevin Kiermaier homered and Danny Jansen drove in two runs in the win.

The Athletics have lost seven of their last 10 games.

They lost by shutout for the second time in three days, as well as the seventh time of the campaign.

The Blue Jays scored in the first inning for the first time since May 4.

The Toronto team scored five runs in the fifth inning.

Justin Turner singled for a run in the ninth inning.
