Gatineau | Two deaths and one arrest after leaving the road

(Gatineau) An 18-year-old man faces several charges, including dangerous driving causing death, after an accident that occurred in the Buckingham area of Gatineau early Sunday morning.

His vehicle allegedly left the road, then collided with Hydro-Québec poles, before catching fire, near the intersection of Buckingham Avenue and Maclaren Street, around 3 a.m.

When the police arrived on the scene, they noted the death of two passengers inside the vehicle, said Officer Patrick Kenney of the City of Gatineau Police Department.

The driver was arrested by police shortly after the collision following information gathered at the scene.

This is Jason Chénier-Beaulne, from Gatineau. The latter appeared Sunday evening.

No details were available as to the identity of the victims.

Agent Kenney indicates that investigators are meeting with witnesses to clarify the circumstances of the event. The Gatineau Police Department is also asking residents for help in obtaining images, videos or additional information about the vehicle involved or the event.

The vehicle, a blue Toyota Corolla, would have been traveling on Georges Street, from the intersection of Filion Road to Maclaren Street, then on Maclaren Street to the location of the collision, in front of number 115 , specify the police.

The establishment of a security perimeter led to the closure of the intersection on Sunday, namely Buckingham Avenue, between Lamennais and Joseph streets, as well as Maclaren Street, between Charles and Georges streets. This corresponds to the bridge which connects the two parts of Buckingham, crossed by the Lièvre river.
