Social networks: Gastronogeek, the chef who reproduces recipes from several cult films

(France 2)

Passionate about cinema and literature, Thibaud Villanova aka Gastronogeek, dissects his favorite scenes on social networks in order to extract legendary recipes.

From the spaghetti in Beauty and the Beast to the soup in Ratatouille, films often make you drool. In Chartres (Eure-et-Loir), a cook has made it his mission to carefully recreate the dishes described in his favorite books and films. In front of the camera, Thibaud Villanova dissects a cult scene from the Star Wars saga in order to derive the recipe. “We actually see a lot of root vegetables, dry herbs”, he notes. With this information, he manages to concoct a vegetable stew with celeriac, carrots and broth.

From screen to plate

They have been sharing their recipes for ten years with their hundreds of thousands of subscribers on their Gastronogeek channel. It offers preparations for all tastes, such as Harry Potter’s drink, Back to the Future’s milkshake or Naruto’s ramen. This autodidact has compiled his recipes in around twenty books. But he has a still unfulfilled dream: to open his own restaurant. With this culinary journey, the videographer offers “extend immersion” from screen to plate.
