The accident occurred around 3 p.m., in a wooded area near Route du Jeu, in this small municipality 80 km north of Gaspé.

The young man who was riding a snowmobile at the time was ejected from his snowmobile before hitting a tree head-on. It was a second snowmobiler who was with him who contacted the emergency services.

The victim was transported to a hospital in the region, before being moved by plane to a hospital in Quebec, said Nicolas Scholtus, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ). His current condition, however, is unknown.

According to the provincial police force, speed could be involved in this case. Moreover, the snowmobiler was not wearing his helmet during the swerve.
