(Gaspé) A man should face justice following a collision involving three vehicles which left two dead on Wednesday in Gaspé.
Emergency services were alerted around 1:45 p.m. to the collision that had just occurred on Route 132, which also bears the name of Boulevard Renard Est, in the Rivière-au-Renard sector.
“Of the three people who were injured, unfortunately two deaths were recorded at the hospital. We are talking about two men aged 18 and 19, ”said Sergeant Béatrice Dorsainville, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
The identity of the victims was not immediately announced.
The circumstances leading to this collision between the three vehicles were still unclear around 10 p.m. However, it is known that none of the motorists had passengers on board.
The third driver, who was injured, was arrested.
“A driver has been arrested in connection with this collision. The charges will be determined during the investigation. It is not excluded that impaired driving could have been a contributing factor to this collision, ”said the spokesperson for the SQ.
The suspect was to remain in custody pending his appearance.
Route 132 was still closed to traffic, eight hours after the accident, at rue Laflamme, for an indefinite period.
“People from the Ministry of Transport were present and a bypass was erected. And then, we have two investigators and a reconstructionist who are analyzing the scene, ”sergeant Dorsainville had indicated a little earlier.
The SQ investigation is continuing.
