Gaspard’s annual prize list | Asterix and Michel Jean at the top of sales in bookstores

The bookstore market experienced a “historic increase” in sales of 16.3% in 2021, reveals Gaspard’s annual ranking, which is based on the analysis of 276 points of sale in Quebec.

While the children’s book and literature categories are still in the lead, this spectacular growth is mainly due to the increase in comic book sales and the return of school sales.

Moreover, the Quebec edition weighs more and more heavily in terms of market share, with 53.1% of sales. But both local production (+18.3%) and foreign production (+14.1%) benefited from the increase in sales.

All categories combined, this is the new Asterix album, Asterix and the griffinwhich was the best seller in Quebec bookstores in 2021. But note that the kukum by Michel Jean, launched it should be recalled in September 2019, is still on the list, in fourth position. Two other novels by the Innu author appear in the top 10, namely Atuk and Tiohtiakerespectively in 9and and 10and position.
