Gascon pigs made in Franche Comté

Flora’s farm in Dambenoît-lès-Colombe is said to be polyculture-breeding with its free-range black pigs and Limousin suckler cows. And to feed all these little people, Flora grows cereals herself and collects the grass to enhance it with her herd of cows. And if Flora has chosen to start raising pigs, it is because they are sociable and intelligent animals and there is strong local consumer demand for quality pork. Its pigs are of rustic breed, a genetic base of Gascon pigs which give meat with a marbled taste. The pigs are born on the farm and raised there in the open air during the summer period and on straw in the winter.

The farm in a few figures; it’s about 100 hectares including thirty in cereals, 6 to 8 sows, 2 boars, a hundred non-breeding pigs and twenty Limousin mothers and their suite. A modest operation compared to large industrial farms but which allows Flora to live from her work and sell her meat directly on the farm or in a very short circuit, taking into account production costs and selling at the right price. With this farm, Flora hopes to contribute to the development of a local economy that respects nature and people, all in organic mode!
