Gas is free at nearly 50 Chicago gas stations

At some forty stations in the Chicago area, motorists can fill up… for free!

No, it’s not a joke. A local businessman by the name of Willie Wilson, who has previously run as a candidate in various elections for mayor of Chicago, the United States Senate and even the presidency of the United States, was donating $50 worth of gas to anyone who showed up to fill up, until his total bill reached $1 million.

Naturally, with gas prices soaring to nearly $5 a gallon in Chicago, long lines of cars stretching for several city blocks quickly formed. Some motorists waited for more than an hour to take advantage of the offer, according to reports Associated Press.

Chicago police say they saw a major traffic slowdown Thursday morning, but no collisions or fights related to the promotion were reported.

This is the second time Wilson has done the trick. A week earlier, on March 17, he had paid for gasoline for drivers at a dozen gas stations for up to $200,000.

Meanwhile, the average price of gasoline in Quebec stands at $1.80 per liter at the time of this writing, which is higher than all other Canadian provinces except British Columbia (1.95 $/L) and Newfoundland and Labrador ($1.88/L). Discover some tools to find the cheapest gasoline.
