Gary Trent excels again and Raptors beat Heat

(Toronto) Gary Trent delivered another stellar game as the Toronto Raptors beat the Miami Heat 110-106 on Tuesday for their third straight win.

Posted yesterday at 10:22 p.m.

Trent provided 33 points, including six 3-pointers, on 10 attempts.

Trent had at least 30 points in a fifth straight game.

In Raptors history, only DeMar DeRozan has done so, in 2016.

“It’s surreal,” Trent said of tying that record. He has done so much for this club and this city, with the way he plays and what he embodies.

“To share this brand with him is beyond words. »

Trent shone with in very limited attendance his father Gary. In nine seasons in the NBA, he had a brief stay with the Raptors.

Coach Nick Nurse also pointed to Trent’s brilliance lately.

“Every time he’s been one-on-one recently, you expect him to hit the target,” Nurse said. It doesn’t matter how it gets there. »

Fred VanVleet scored 21 points for the Raptors (26-23), who have lost only once in five games.

Pascal Siakam added 16 points, OG Anunoby 13, Precious Achiuwa 12 and Scottie Barnes 11.

Barnes and Achiuwa will take part in the Rising Stars game on February 18 in Cleveland, on the sidelines of the annual All-Star Classic.

Toronto was 15 points behind on a long shot from P.J. Tucker early in the third quarter. But at the end of this engagement, the deficit was only three points.

Miami took a 93-92 lead, then Trent was in the middle of a defining streak.

He had two long-range shots and two free throws in 1:16, after which the Raptors led 100-93.

Bam Adebayo foul in attack; Anunoby quickly made a basket and Toronto added two free throws, including one caused by a technical foul by Max Strus. Nurse’s group led at this point 106-98, with 2:53 to go.

Adebayo dunked, but then Barnes converted a rebound of his own. Adebayo added a basket, but Jimmy Butler cut short a threat by stepping out of bounds

Tyler Herro went there with late stride shots, but the Heat was running out of time.

After a timeout called by Nurse, Barnes relayed to Anunoby, for an alley-oop.

The Raptors were able to celebrate another inspired win, though they played with fire going 20-for-29 on free throws.

Adebayo had 32 points for the Heat, which lost in a third straight game.

Butler had 16 points and 12 assists. Bored in the right big toe, he did not play Monday in Boston, where the Heat lost by 30 points.

Herro provided 18 points, six more than Tucker, .

Star of the Raptors for many years, Kyle Lowry missed an eighth game in a row for personal reasons.

The Heat will play in Toronto again on April 3.

Saturday in Miami, the Raptors had the last word 124-120, after three extensions.

The busy week for the Raptors will continue Thursday and Friday, with the visit of the Bulls and Hawks.

Toronto sits in eighth place in the East, one game behind the seventh-placed Charlotte Hornets.
