‘Game of Thrones’ actress Carice van Houten arrested during Dutch climate action

46-year-old Dutch actress Carice van Houten was part of a group of Extinction Rebellion activists blockading the Utrechtsebaan section of the A12 motorway in central The Hague on Saturday (27 May) to protest against Dutch subsidies to fossil fuels. Police, who used water cannons to disperse the activists, announced on Twitter during the afternoon that they had made arrests.

Carice van Houten, who had previously indicated her presence at the scene on her Instagram account, “was taken away” in one of the buses chartered to evacuate the arrested individuals, reported the Dutch press agency ANP. In a video that she posted on the social network, we see the actress, who plays the character of Melisandre in Game Of Thrones, dressed in a red poncho, getting wet from the water cannons. This was the seventh action organized in recent months by the Extinction Rebellion movement on this section in The Hague. Several Dutch celebrities participated in these actions.
