Carey Price trains for the first time with his teammates this Saturday morning, a sign of a return to play which seems more and more likely. But Brendan Gallagher is not there. Injured in the “lower body” during last Thursday’s game against the Dallas Stars, he will not face the Ottawa Senators, who will be at the Bell Center in the evening.

Price has been working with specialty coach Eric Raymond over the past few days. By joining the rest of the group, he takes another step in his rehabilitation. He had knee surgery last summer, and his first two attempts to return to the game were hampered by regressions.

Barring a turnaround, he would be in the final stages of his fitness program.

Gallagher, he gave hard against the boards in the second period, Thursday. Grimacing in pain, he painfully retreated to the locker room, but played in the final twenty nonetheless. He did not practice on Friday. This painful season continues for him, as he missed seven games after contracting COVID-19 and another “lower body” injury deprived him of 10 games.

Jonathan Drouin (wrist) seems very close to a comeback, but hasn’t gotten the green light from medical staff yet. David Savard (ankle), Josh Anderson (lower body) and Tyler Pitlick (undisclosed injury) also trained. All three are now subject to daily evaluation. They can all be contacted, which is positive under the circumstances.

Cale Klague (upper body) also remains sidelined indefinitely. Ryan Poehling (upper body) and Andrew Hammond (lower body) will have to wait one to two weeks before playing.
