Gala of December 16 in Shawinigan | Injured, Simon Kean withdraws from the card

(Montreal) Trois-Rivières boxer Simon Kean has withdrawn from his fight against Eric Molina scheduled for the December 16 gala at the Center Gervais Auto in Shawinigan due to a back injury suffered in training, announced Eye of the Tiger Management in a statement Wednesday morning.

Kean (22-1, 21 KOs) was scheduled to complete his 24e career fight that night, against Molina (29-8, 21 KOs). EOTTM clarified that it was a lumbar sprain, and specified that “the associated symptoms can have significant consequences if they are not treated”.

“We are disappointed to have to cancel the fight because the training was going well, and we saw real improvements on the points worked. But following Simon’s injury, we couldn’t do full training and we were starting to fall behind in preparation for the fight, ”explained Kean’s trainer, Vincent Auclair.

The announcement comes just hours after it was announced that the unification bout between world light flyweight champions Kim Clavel and Jessica Nery Plata will not take place as scheduled Thursday at Place Bell. The Quebecer would be bothered by health problems. As a result, the gala, which was to feature six fights, has been postponed in its entirety to a later date, according to various media outlets.

This will not be the case for the December 16 card in Shawinigan. In the absence of Kean, there will therefore be seven fights scheduled for this gala, including three championships.

Alexandre Gaumont (5-0, 3 KOs), Luis Santana (7-0, 2 KOs), Leïla Beaudoin (7-0, 1 KOs) and Thomas Chabot (7- 0.7 K. -O.) will also take part in the evening.
