In Seine-Saint-Denis, Gagny and Montreuil, rainwater is used sparingly.

Faced with the climate emergency and the increased risk of drought, municipalities are finding solutions to save blue gold. In Seine-Saint-Denis, the town hall of Gagny has installed water collectors in eight schools out of the eighteen establishments in the city. Their capacity is 300 liters and the water is used to water the gardens created and maintained by the school children. “The green space service will be able to recover this rainwater to water the flower beds”says Anthony Garces, environmental delegate for the city of Gagny.

Untarred parking spaces to promote the flow of water

In Montreuil, since February, the city has been carrying out an experiment: on two streets, around thirty parking spaces have been cleared of tar to promote the flow of water. “It also involves simply de-waterproofing our streets. This will promote the water cycle, it will recharge our groundwater and it’s also beautiful”, says Patrice Bessac, PCF mayor of Montreuil. Cost of the operation: 5,000 euros per square, half the cost of a bitumen square. The experimentation phase should last two to three months.
