Anger of farmers: Gabriel Attal’s announcements fail to convince
Anger of farmers: Gabriel Attal’s announcements fail to convince – (France 2)
Gabriel Attal held a press conference on Wednesday February 21, as blockages increased in the run-up to the Agricultural Show. Unconvinced, those mainly concerned are demanding action.
While blockages continue on certain highways, Gabriel Attal’s speech was expected on Wednesday February 21. The Prime Minister wanted to show that the commitments made at the beginning of February were about to be kept. Among the announcements, a new Egalim law, more visas for foreign seasonal workers, and a reduction in regulations on pesticides. The announcements do not seem to have convinced farmers.
“The account is not there”
On the A62, a few minutes after the end of the press conference, a tractor dumped slurry on the roadway. “As long as nothing is signed, we will stay there“, summarizes Vincent Chabalier, farmer. In Béthune (Pas-de-Calais), tractors attacked several public buildings in the morning. “We know that it takes time, but we also know that Salon de laagriculture is next week. There had to be very concrete things between now and the show. Today, the account is not there“, deplores Clément Cuvillier, deputy secretary general of the FDSEA Pas-de-Calais.
