Prime Minister Gabriel Attal will not ask for a vote of confidence after his general policy declaration. The government spokesperson, Prisca Thévenot, confirmed this on Wednesday January 17, after the Council of Ministers. “No”she answered the question on a possible vote of confidence, recalling that the presidential camp had not had a majority in the Assembly since June 2022 and that there was not necessarily “need a vote”.

Rumors of such a decision had been circulating for several days. “There will be no vote of confidence. What is the point of self-scuttle? And then, you saw what Ciotti said, who assured that LR deputies will vote neither confidence nor censorship of Gabriel Attal”confided a member of the majority, Tuesday noon, to franceinfo.

A heavyweight from the majority told franceinfo last week: “For a vote of confidence, you need a majority.” And to add: “Unless I fell asleep during the 15 days of the Christmas break, the political situation in the Assembly has not changed. And the appointment of Gabriel Attal does not change the situation in the Assembly. The oppositions are really rooted in the opposition.”
