Gabriel Attal praised his model of “French secularism” in Canada on Friday, April 12, during his visit to Quebec.
Visiting the Quebec Book Fair (Canada), Gabriel Attal did not shy away from his pleasure. The Prime Minister took a walk in the crowd and shook hands. Along with his Quebec counterpart François Legault, Gabriel Attal defended the model of secularism. “This is what allows equality between citizens, so that everyone is treated the same way”he declared, before adding: “If we want to be able to live together, I believe very deeply, this requires above all the rules of the Republic, and not religious rules.”
Defense of the French language in Quebec
He also defended the French language in Quebec. There seemed to be unanimous agreement on this subject. The Prime Minister’s visit to Canada was, according to the French-speaking press, a success. The trip was expected, while the last French visit at this level dates back to June 2018, when Emmanuel Macron came to the G7 summit.
