He had promised in January 2024, when he joined Matignon, Prime Minister Gabriel Attal will not abandon National Education, his previous position, within the government, far from it. And this March 14, 2024, on the occasion of World Mathematics Day, he showed himself determined. On Instagram, he talked about “lraising the level in mathematics” as a priority, explaining what was being implemented. He then gave the floor to Eve Gilles, Miss France 2024.
“The best of all”
Indeed, according to Gabriel Attal, the beauty queen is “an ambassador who is the best of all” to talk to girls about science and maths majors. And the young woman didn’t give up! She explained to the public this Thursday: “there is still a lack of parity in this subject. However, the world of mathematics is the professions of the future, such as artificial intelligence, engineering, statistics, astronomy, research or the world of science in general.
Speaking from experience, Eve Gilles clarified: “I myself am a second year student of a mathematical computer science degree applied to the human and social sciences, to become a statistician”. To guide her, the student already has great models: “From Sophie Adenot to Irène Joliot-Curie, the list is long“, she said. And added: “Many women have already paved the way.”
“I believe in us”
Faced with the observation of “too few women“in these fields of excellence, Eve Gilles was encouraging. She declared that at the university, as elsewhere, “never let anyone tell you that you can’t do it. I know our strength, our ability to move mountains when we have a goal we can achieve it”. She finally concluded: “let’s get involved in these careers that are shaping the world of tomorrow […] I believe in us”.
