“This is the first time in more than twenty-five years that the French will choose a Prime Minister.” Gabriel Attal called on Thursday June 20 for the French to “choose” as head of government from the first round of the legislative elections, Sunday June 30. “Obviously there will be a before and an after. And at the end of this election, necessarily, there will be a before and an after in the practice of power, in the balance of institutions,” he added during a press conference presenting the program.
“On January 9, the President of the Republic appointed me. On June 30, I would like the French to choose me”added the Prime Minister, who is leading the legislative campaign for the presidential camp. “Don’t scatter your votes in the first round”he asked, recalling that his camp was running under the banner Together for the Republic and that he was “the useful vote from the first round to counter the extremes”.
“Whatever the result of the election, the President of the Republic is president until 2027. The result of the election is therefore not who is President of the Republic, it is who is Prime Minister , who governs, with what government and what majority”, developed Gabriel Attal. He defended a choice “very clear”: “You have on one side Jordan Bardella, with the National Rally alliance and others; on the other Jean-Luc Mélenchon, with the France Insoumise alliance and others. And then, there are the candidates Together for the Republic, behind me.”
