After the appointment of Gabriel Attal as Prime Minister, Benjamin Morel, political scientist and lecturer at the University of Paris II, is the guest on 8 a.m. on Wednesday January 10 to talk about it.
He is only 34 years old. Does the age of the new Prime Minister scare the French? Not according to the first polls. “Gabriel Attal is also designated as the anti-Bardella weapon. And there, you have the need to show dynamic youth who look to the future”, explains Benjamin Morel, estimating that there is now a duel between Jordan Bardella (RN) and Gabriel Attal (Renaissance). He wonders if the “Attal phenomenon will last until the Europeans”. “We know that as a Prime Minister, under the Fifth Republic, you have a sort of state of grace for around two months”before his popularity dropped in the polls, he explains.
Heavyweights keep their wallets
“We see that Emmanuel Macron is launching major projects but his appointment when, precisely, the new act of the five-year term has not really been outlined, perhaps shows that the image prevails over the substance of the ads”says the political scientist. “He is seen, rightly or wrongly, by some, as a putative candidate for 2027. But today, he is unanimous within Renaissance” but not necessarily within the Horizons and Modem groups, which “risks creating tensions”, believes Benjamin Morel. Éric Dupond-Moretti at Justice, Gérald Darmanin at Interior, Bruno the Mayor at Economy and Sébastien Lecornu, Minister of the Armed Forces should remain at the head of their respective ministries. The major question that remains unanswered is that of the Ministry of National Education.
