At 34, he is the youngest prime minister appointed by the youngest president of the Fifth Republic, as he observed in his arrival speech at Matignon, this January 9, 2024, in the presence of Élisabeth Borne. Gabriel Attal announced that he was “at work, with strength, humility and without taboos in the service of the French“. And for the SOS Homophobia association, he has work to do to fight against violence against LGBTI people.
Being gay is not “no longer an obstacle to the exercise of senior functions”
Indeed, in a post shared on X, the association said about Stéphane Séjourné’s companion: “We are delighted that being homosexual or gay today is no longer an obstacle to holding senior positions. Society is progressing and this visibility is going in the right direction.”. And added: “What is important however these are the actions and policies carried out: we are waiting for a Government which tackles the issue of violence and attacks against LGBTI people head-onand take concrete action for equal rights“.
Because Gabriel Attal is also the first head of the executive to have freely discussed his homosexuality. Remember in 2018, when he first entered government, a famous ex-classmate, Juan Branco, ousted him. The lawyer estimated in a vitriolic tweet that Gabriel Attal had benefited from a sofa promotion because of his civil partnership with Stéphane Séjourné, close to Emmanuel Macron. The following year, Gabriel Attal admitted to Libération that he had hesitated to file a complaint.

A few years later, he admitted in the summer of 2023 that he was still the daily target of homophobic insults on social networks. In the columns of Galahe had in fact estimated: “I am strong enough to face homophobic attacks. When I hear these words, I think especially of the millions of French people who experience this in anonymity and are less supported or accompanied than me. It is for them that SOS Homophobia sent its signal on January 9, 2024.
