A “major consultation” under the aegis of the National Commission for Public Debate (CNDP) will be launched on France’s energy and climate strategy, Matignon announced Friday March 15.

The consultation will focus on the one hand on France’s energy roadmap – which energies, nuclear and renewable, by 2030 and 2035 – and on the plan to reduce carbon emissions. “The referral letter will leave soon”explained Matignon, without further details on the calendar or the organization.

Energy bill postponed indefinitely

“What we are now waiting for is political support for this consultation by the Prime Minister and for there to be a commitment to take it into account in the final documents”commented to AFP Anne Bringault, energy transition manager of the Climate Action Network.

Announced in the Council of Ministers for the beginning of February, the energy bill was ultimately cut in January from its objectives of production by energy and reduction of carbon emissions, before disappearing from the radar, against a backdrop of difficulty for the government to form a majority in Parliament around energy issues.

To explain this postponement of the programmatic aspect of the law, Bercy had highlighted a need to “finalize the consultation work on our energy and climate strategy” and of “find new consensus”. To date, the bill has been postponed to an unknown date; in any case it is not on the parliamentary agenda until the summer.
