Barnier Government: “We will have to weigh in with kindness, but vigilance”

With three LR ministers proposed in the casting of the Barnier government, “We will have to weigh with kindness, but vigilance”sums up Geoffroy Didier, deputy secretary general of Les Républicains. Even if he would have preferred a government “more right”Geoffroy Didier does not say “disappointed” of the number of positions granted to LR, which corresponds “to the balance of power in Parliament”.

According to the non-definitive list proposed to the President of the Republic by the Prime Minister on Thursday evening, the future government has 38 ministers, including 16 full-time ministers. In these 16 key positions, 7 go to the majority, 3 to the Republicans, 2 to the MoDem, according to this nominal list which can still be “refined”.

“We will try to work together, it is not easy”says Geoffroy Didier, referring to the need to move forward on the LR side, “with great humility”. “We are all betting together on the central bloc against the extremes”adds the Republican who specifies: “I am not a centrist, but I assume that I am part of the central bloc.” THE “The big challenge is to make sure that we are not in a ‘at the same time encore'”, warns the LR deputy general secretary.

Matignon promises a government to be presented “before Sunday”. “Let’s be patient”says Geoffroy Didier, who points out that it is the President who “appointed on the proposal of the Prime Minister”. “He may have his say in particular on reserved areas [la Défense, les Affaires étrangères]”.

Geoffroy Didier says there will be no tax increase

The Deputy Secretary General of Les Républicains wants a golden rule for taxation: “We are not increasing taxes for the French, whoever they are: those who take risks, those who have earned their living, as well as those who are not paid enough and who deserve to be better paid.”

Geoffroy Didier believes that the threshold of “Tax acceptability is more than saturated.” He specifies that “Moreover, we unfortunately have the record number of compulsory levies in OECD countries.”
