Future arena: the Coyotes hope for a miracle

The Arizona Coyotes could receive some good news Thursday as their auction bid for land they covet in north Phoenix will be considered by state officials.

PHNX Sports reporter Craig Morgan reported Monday that the Arizona State Land Department Board of Appeals has officially added the item to its March 14 schedule. Miracle Development is representing the Coyotes in this matter.

In February, Morgan also said the auction could be held in June. The National Hockey League team had confirmed that it intended to purchase land in this area and that it intended to remain in the desert.

Local media also reported that the “Yotes” were targeting a 100-acre plot of land located off a highway in Scottsdale.

Owner Alex Meruelo’s organization is trying to avoid a second failure after the referendum that prevented it from building an amphitheater in Tempe last May.

The Coyotes are playing a second season at Mullett Arena, the 4,600-seat home of Arizona State University. At the end of the campaign, one year will remain in the agreement between the club and the establishment.
