Furniture revalued with creativity

Upcycling furniture has gained popularity in recent years. Most often, it involves revamping them, by sanding them, repainting them and varnishing them. They can also be decorated with pasted paper with patterns or flourishes of all kinds. There are pros in the field who are overflowing with inventiveness with updates that really go off the beaten track, using unusual materials and very personal techniques.

Here are some beautiful creations to discover.

Boucle wool bedside tables, Atelier l’Azurééenne

Natalie Sicard

It’s not uncommon to come across these slightly 1980s pieces of faux leather furniture in second-hand stores. Here is an absolutely original idea to transform them into small, soft and cozy. Élodie Roizot, a girl full of good ideas and training to become an interior designer, shares on her Atelier l’Azurééenne Instagram account revaluations – with explanatory videos – of furniture that she had fun transforming for her home. So here she covered the bedside tables with a looped wool fabric by stapling it to the surfaces, a bit like redoing the seat of a chair. The result is magnificent!

Oak finished bedside tables, Atelier l’Azurééenne

Another of his transformations consists of having covered the front of the drawer and the sides of a bedside table with Pole wrap, a flexible cover for 1/2 in. wide oak columns. Its thinness means that it can easily be cut to the desired dimensions and shape with a simple cutter. Giving furniture a second life by taking care to reuse materials and products that have the least impact on the environment is his leitmotif for all his creations.

La portraitiste coffee table, 12H x 34 x 32 inches, Atelier R-usé, $259.99

Natalie Sicard

Using an old door and 4 salvaged banister posts, Marie-Michèle Lavigne from Atelier R-usé created this pretty coffee table. She painted graphic shapes and lines in black on the top with a raised brush. Some designs were obtained by making stencils with dried leaves. Using the same technique, she also decorated the front of the bedside table with pretty abstract flowers.

Le fleur d’oranger occasional furniture, dark blue and orange, 27H x 36W x 14D inches, Atelier R-usé, $240

Natalie Sicard

Still on the floral theme, but this time “the orange blossom”, she played with brush strokes with an orange color on a dark blue background to give the repetitive effect of flower petals. It feels like a field! This fine signature of the artist, painted by hand, adds a very personalized and vibrant touch to this furniture. Unique pieces.

Vintage “La petite laine” chest of drawers, M&M creations, $350

Natalie Sicard

Mélanie Racicot of Créations M&M, wanted to give a little oumph to this dresser vintage which has first been sanded back to natural wood, lightly bleached and varnished. The addition of hand-woven wool (by her!) on the second drawer, and textured paste on the third, to give a plaster effect, gives a lot of character and authenticity to the whole. Its facade catches the eye and adds a lot of texture to the decoration.
