Fueling cynicism | The duty

We see that women and men who abandon their professional careers for a while to serve in politics have a bad time. Faced with the scale of the task and the threats of all kinds spread on social networks, resignations are increasing as the weeks go by. Those who are going through difficult situations have my full sympathy.

On the other hand, and as the adage goes, every coin has two sides. Certain decisions, taken in high places, deserve serious questioning. The first, which comes to mind, is of course this gift offered on a silver platter, by Minister Girard, to the billionaires of Los Angeles. Had to do it! This week, we learned that in Quebec, the national capital, the reopening festivities of the newly renovated Gabrielle-Roy library were going to cost $300,000! Fortunately, an announced strike forced the cancellation of the party and brought the bill down to a modest $60,000! On what planet do those responsible for such a decision live? How can you be so disconnected from reality to so happily squander taxpayers’ money? No doubt if we looked into the budgets of other municipalities, we would probably find similar expenditures, which are in no way justified.

And as the news tells us, the federal government is not left out with the ArriveCAN affair. Millions of our beautiful dollars are at stake. In a word, all the authorities that govern us mismanage the people’s money. Should we be surprised then that cynicism, so well nourished, takes hold and is likely to stay there for a long time? To return to the case of Quebec, how many books by local authors could we buy with the budget intended for party opening? Enough to furnish the shelves of many libraries!
