In 2021, the lack of fruit had increased their price. This is not the case this year. The May heat wave even developed their flavor. Enough to encourage the French to consume it.

On the markets, strawberries, cherries and apricots took over the stalls. The good weather and the warmth of spring helped produce a good harvest, both in quantity and quality. Something to please the taste buds and the wallet. “This year, strawberries are super affordable. As a result, we have been eating a lot of them since they came out of the ground”says a mother. “There is a large quantity of fruit that has arrived. Suddenly, it lowers the prices, (…) otherwise it was a lot of losses”, explains a trader.

Last year, the price of a kilo of cherries approached 17 euros. The frost had ravaged crops, lowered harvests and therefore lowered prices. The year 2022 seems to mark a return to normal for the moment, but the producers remain cautious, given that the season is only just beginning.
