Consumers face a real spike in the prices of essential products : flour, pasta, bread. This is also the case fruits and vegetables with an increase of 9% in two years according to the latest barometer of consumer prices from Rural Families published this Friday. The defense association therefore calls on the public authorities to a helping hand for the most modest.
Voucher “fruits and vegetables”
Rural families request the payment of a “fruit and vegetable” check for all people who do not have enough means. A check for 37.50 euros paid to each person in need every month.
The association explains that an average basket of fruits and vegetables represents approximately the third of current consumption expenditure. The average monthly price of a “varied” basket for a family of 4 amounts to 450€ per month for a first price basket with a lesser variety of products, at €696 for the first prices, €765 for national brands, at 1148€ per month for a basket made up of organic products with a greater variety of products.
Public health issue
Rural Families therefore calls on the government to intervene and emergency so as not to divert families with the most modest budgets from these “good for health” foods. 1 in 9 children does not eat 5 fruits and vegetables a day according to the barometer.
It is a public health issue. In France, 17% of the population is obese, 4 million people suffer from cardiovascular disease and 3.2 million from diabetes.
