He embodied the “little bums”, the scum and even pimps. But Kevin Ranély moves away from it today, playing the card of benevolence in the series We. A necessary volte-face for the actor who “needed to go elsewhere”.
Kevin Ranély burst onto our screens a few years ago, marking the imagination thanks to the character of Karim in the popular series Fugueuse. It’s hard to believe that the person who embodied a violent, unscrupulous pimp is the same person who today lends his features to the endearing Thibault, an integral part of the narrative core of Us.
“We couldn’t be further,” agrees Kevin Ranély, laughing.
“The p’tit bum label, I had it for a long time. It was necessary to break this image that people had of me. Thibaud was perfect for that; he is a nice bisexual boy, open-minded and generous. And apart from sexual orientation, he’s a character who looks a lot like me, ”continues the actor.
This We is a building (the Northern Fixtures, of which only the letters n, o, u and s have survived the test of time) where five young people gravitate who, at first glance, could not be more different.
But a twist of fate teaches them that they were all born a few days apart… in the same nursery. We suspect that it is not necessarily a coincidence that they are reunited today.
Various identities
These friends are called Camille, Alexis, Anaïs, Margaux and Thibault. And they are all very different from each other, both in their personalities and their sexual identity and their cultural background. An element that struck Kevin Ranély on the first reading of the script.
“That’s the fun! Each character has its color, its peculiarities. There is a DJ, a girl very connected to spirituality and astrology, cultures mix… I look at that and I see the Montreal that I know,” he says.
The plot, already well established by the first six episodes deployed last December, is getting tougher at the start of the year. The cards are shuffled briskly – thickening several mysteries – in the second part of the season, posted on Club illico last week.
Camille’s quest for the truth will further poison her relationship with her parents, at the same rate as Margaux becomes bogged down in a toxic relationship with Guillaume. As for Thibault, both his family and personal reality will experience new twists.
“It will spank hard”, promises Kevin Ranély.
“In fact, it’s the equivalent of the first six episodes… but to the power of four. It will completely deviate the narrative curve for the rest, ”he continues, anxious to avoid disclosing certain reversals.
However, it will be necessary to be patient before being able to discover this “sequel” to which Kevin Ranély alludes, the next shootings not being planned until the spring.
