Loqmann Benhaddya, a French computer science student, invented an app to scan trash on the street. Originally from Trappes, in the Paris suburbs, he won a national competition which will take him to study in California.

There silicon Valley, stronghold of digital giants, is located a stone’s throw from the Golden Gate and the San Francisco Bay (United States). It could change the destiny of Loqmann Benhaddya and his comrades. For these students from Trappes (Yvelines), the American dream has come true: a first trip in December, and soon another, to present their inventions. On their computers, lines of code, which allow artificial intelligence to be used to invent software.

A waste management application

Loqmann Benhaddya, 18 years old and a second year computer science student at university, has just created a waste management application. “The idea is as soon as I see litter, I take my phone and take a photo to send this image to the town hall. Artificial intelligence will process the photo, and then a team will collect this waste “he explains.

In Trappes, where almost half of the population is under 30 and one in four young people is unemployed, around ten girls and boys are propelling the city into a hotbed of artificial intelligence. Exhibited on the front of the town hall, the young computer scientists do not hesitate to pass on their knowledge. In December, the University of Berkeley (California, United States) awarded the inventors of Trappes the prize for young talents of the year 2023. Next March they will return to the United States to create a partnership between Berkeley and Trappes.
