Michel Barnier’s new government is already under pressure. In a fragile political space, the Prime Minister is expected to deliver his general policy speech to the Assembly on October 1.
Barely had his team been formed, and Michel Barnier was already under pressure. In a National Assembly transformed into a cauldron, the Prime Minister found himself on the front line, without a real headliner at his side.
The heavyweights of his coalition are lying in wait, starting with Gabriel Attal. Part of the presidential camp cannot stomach the nomination of Bruno Retailleau or Laurence Garnier, who are considered too conservative.I will ask the Prime Minister to clearly state (…) that there will be no going back on medically assisted procreation, the right to abortion, LGBT rights.“, declared Gabriel Attal.
In his own political family, among the Republicans, Michel Barnier is also expected to make a difference, notably by Laurent Wauquiez. The main risk, however, comes from the opposition, on the extreme right as well as on the left. Olivier Faure has stated that the New Popular Front will vote “a motion of censure“, while the RN lets the threat hang in the air.
