The employment rate for seniors in France is one of the lowest in Europe: 56% for those over 55, 35% for those over 60. “From the age of 55, there is really a change in the outlook of employers. This refers to dominant representations in companies. And I am talking about executives,” notes Gilles Gateau, the director general of the Association for the employment of executives (APEC), the eco guest of franceinfo on Monday March 13.
Skeptical about the usefulness of subsidized contracts
Gilles Gateau has reservations about the idea of a senior CDI, put forward by right-wing senators. “There have already been contract formulas with aid in the past, that has not fundamentally changed the given,” remembers the former chief of staff of Michel Sapin, Minister of Labour. “The fundamental criteria on which the choice of a recruiter is based are not extremely rational when it comes to ruling out a senior candidate,” concludes Gilles Gateau.
