from “Mélenchon Prime Minister” to “disobedience” to Europe, can the union of the left unite on its com?

The union of the left around La France insoumise is not synonymous with agreement on everything, all the time, far from it. How to present themselves united to the French despite the disagreements? How to “sell” this Nupes as a novelty, when alliances on the left have already existed?

The Nupes, made up of four parties that are certainly allies but with disagreements, can it speak with one voice until the legislative elections? This is the question posed by Laetitia Krupa and Gaspard Gantzer, with their guest Vincent Martigny, French historian and political scientist, professor at the Université Côte-d’Azur and the École polytechnique.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon immediately understood the importance of dramatizing these legislative elections, which do not excite the French. In 2017, only one in two voters came to vote. With his slogans of “third round of the presidential election” and “Mélenchon Prime Minister”, he achieves this objective of giving a striking stake to the election while once again personalizing the ballot to the extreme.

But now that he is no longer alone, the leader of La France insoumise no longer has total control over communication around Nupes. How are they going to do, with the Greens, the Communists, the Socialists, to communicate with one voice despite their disagreements, and when dissenting voices are already being heard in the PS, like that of François Hollande? How to create an identity to embody this alliance?

Also in this episode, “History from Elsewhere” takes us to Chile, where a marker of political history inspired Jean-Luc Mélenchon. And for his “more info”, Gaspard Gantzer tells us about the future government spokesperson.
