Sales, clearance sales, flash sales, destocking … The some two billion euros of goods that have remained unsold at the end of the long chain of consumption can no longer be destroyed by incineration in France, from January 1, 2022.

This measure, resulting from the anti-waste law and for the circular economy, is intended to “oblige producers, importers and distributors to reuse, reuse or recycle unsold non-food products”, to reduce waste and greenhouse gas emissions and create new forms of solidarity, the Ministry of Ecological Transition recalled on Friday, December 10.

The measure concerns electrical and electronic products, batteries, textiles, furniture, ink cartridges as well as hygiene and childcare products, food preservation and cooking equipment, developmental and leisure products. , as well as books and school supplies.

The law provides for fines “up to 15,000 euros per breach and per legal person”, in the event of an inspection of the repression of fraud, recalls the ministry. Some of these products, which do not yet benefit from the REP recycling process, have until December 31, 2023 to comply.
