The cruise on the Odet “the prettiest river in France” aboard the Vedettes de l’Odet is a real moment of relaxation and discovery through the comments of a guide passionate about the natural and maritime heritage of Cornwall.
But where does this title of “Prettiest river in France” come from? These words come to us from Emile Zola who stayed in Sainte-Marine, a magnificent little port facing Bénodet.
This river of Odet, of about sixty kilometers, takes its source in Saint-Goazec in the Black Mountains and is famous for the many castles and mansions visible on its banks. Most of them have magnificent botanical parks: Kerembleis, Perennou, Kerouzien, Kergoz…Kerdour, Lanroz, Lanniron, Poulguinan…
But the walk on the Odet river is also the discovery of places steeped in history and living legends: the bishop’s chair, the virgin’s rock, the tip of the Spaniards, the korrigans, and so many others !
Aboard comfortable and panoramic ships, you will discover a mysterious landscape and all in nature. Sea and river birds find food and shelter here: Little egrets, gray herons, kingfishers, terns, cormorants.
And let’s not forget that the Odet river was the place of residence of illustrious authors: Emile Zola and Jean de la Fontaine came to immerse themselves in the banks of the Odet.
