(Mississauga) Frito Lay Canada is recalling two of its most popular snack foods due to a possible risk of salmonella contamination.
The recall includes Country Cheddar Flavored SunChips and Original Munchies “Super Mix.” These products are sold across Canada.
The company says it took this action after being informed by a seasoning supplier that an ingredient supplied by a third party was potentially contaminated with the bacteria.
Frito Lay says that while no salmonella was found in the seasoning, the recall was issued “out of an abundance of caution.”
Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps.
People are encouraged to check their pantry for these products and throw them away.
“Frito Lay Canada is working closely with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) to ensure that recalled products are removed from the market,” the company said in a statement.
