Fleury blocks 32 shots and the Wild win 3-2 against the Penguins in Minnesota

Kirill Kaprizov scored the winning goal midway through the third period and Marc-André Fleury stopped 32 shots in a 3-2 win for the Minnesota Wild against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday night.

Matt Boldy and Jonas Brodin also scored for the Wild, who have won five of their last seven games.

Fleury, who won a 553e match, was honored before the match. The Quebecer overtook Patrick Roy (551) for the number of goalie victories almost a month ago, in second place in history.

The Wild took advantage of the Penguins’ visit to town, the team that selected him first overall in the 2003 draft and with whom he won three Stanley Cups, to highlight Fleury’s achievement.

Reilly Smith and Sidney Crosby scored the Penguins’ goals, while Alex Nedeljkovic made 27 saves.

Boldy gave the Wild the lead in the first period with a power play goal. It was his 17e net of the countryside.

Smith tied the game in the second period, 2:54 into the period.

After Brodin’s net, Crosby tied the score by redirecting a superb pass from defenseman Erik Karlsson just 1:01 into the third period.

The Penguins challenged Kaprisov’s game-winning goal midway through the final period, believing the puck had left the playing surface by hitting the protective net, but were unsuccessful.
