Friday Night in the NHL | Kreider scores 2 goals in Rangers win over Ducks

Chris Kreider scored two goals, Jonathan Quick blocked 28 shots and the New York Rangers beat the Anaheim Ducks 4-1 on Friday.

Jimmy Vesey gave the Rangers a 2-1 lead with 8:15 left in the second period. Kreider then scored his second goal of the game, on the power play, with 3:41 remaining in the period.

With his first goal of the match, Kreider reached the plateau of 500 career points. Quick stopped 29 pucks.

Adam Edstrom scored in his NHL debut with the Rangers. Mika Zibanejad also hit the target.

Brett Leason scored the Ducks’ goal. Lukas Dostal blocked 34 of 39 shots.

Forsberg scores in overtime and Predators win 6-5 against Hurricanes

Filip Forsberg scored his third decisive overtime goal this season and the Nashville Predators beat the Carolina Hurricanes 6-5 on Friday night.

The Predators have won six of their last seven games. It was the 16the Forsberg’s goal of the season, which allowed his team to remain undefeated in its five games that required extra time.

Roman Josi scored and had two assists in the victory. Forsberg, Ryan O’Reilly and Jusso Parssinen all had a goal and an assist. Tyson Barire and Jérémy Lauzon also scored for the Predators, who got 25 saves from their goalie Kevin Lankinen.

Stefan Noesen and Martin Necas each scored and added an assist for the Hurricanes. Tony DeAngelo, Jalen Chatfield and Sebastian Aho scored the team’s other goals. Michael Bunting had two assists and Antti Raanta blocked 24 shots.

Bruins win 5-4 against Islanders in shootout

David Pastrnak scored in a shootout to give the Boston Bruins a 5-4 win over the Islanders on Friday in New York.

Pastrnak, Morgan Geekie, James van Reimsdyk and Mason Lohrei scored the Bruins’ goals in regulation.

Lohrei sent both teams into overtime with 3:09 left in the third period. Linus Ullmark stopped 34 shots for the Bruins, who lead the Eastern Conference with a 19-5-4 record.

Brock Nelson, Bo Horvat, Alexander Romanov and Simon Holmstrom scored for the Islanders, while Ilya Sorokin made 29 saves.

Charlie Coyle and Pastrnak scored for the Bruins in the shootout. Holmstrom did the same for the Islanders. Pastrnak was the third shooter to start for the Bruins.

Horvat gave the Islanders a 3-2 lead with a power play goal. His goal extended his streak of games with at least one point to nine.

The Islanders will be the opponents of the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday evening at the Bell Centre.

The Stars win 5-4 against the Senators, Oettinger is injured and leaves the game

Miro Heiskanen and Matt Duchene scored 44 seconds apart in the third period and the Dallas Stars beat the Ottawa Senators 5-4 on Friday.

Stars goalie Jake Oettinger suffered a lower body injury and left the game after only eight minutes of play in the first period. He was replaced by Scott Wedgewood, who stopped 25 of 27 shots.

Joe Pavelski, Esa Lindell and Thomas Harley also scored for the Stars.

Drake Batherson scored two goals for the Senators, while defenseman Jakob Chychrun had three assists. Josh Norris and Travis Hamonic also found the back of the net.

Goalkeeper Anton Forsberg made 19 saves in his 10e departure from the campaign.

Vladimir Tarasenko was not in uniform for the Senators. The attacker, who was to compete in the 700e match of his career, was absent for family reasons.

Rourke Chartier, who replaced Tarasenko in the lineup, left the game after two periods with an upper body injury. Striker Mathieu Joseph also left the match, for his part after the first engagement, due to a lower body injury.

Ingram and Maccelli take care of Sharks in 1-0 Coyotes win

Connor Ingram stopped 21 shots for his third shutout of the season, Matias Maccelli scored the only goal of the game and the Arizona Coyotes beat the San Jose Sharks 1-0 on Friday.

Maccelli scored with 5:15 left in the second period. Nick Bjugstad, battling in front of the net with Sharks defenseman Jan Rutta, redirected the puck to Maccelli and the latter scored his sixth goal of the season.

Ingram made a 10e start in 12 games for the Coyotes.

The Sharks saw two goals denied in the third period. Their streak of games with at least one point ended at four. It was a sixth straight game ending with just one goal for the Sharks.

Kaapo Kahkonen made 23 saves for the Sharks, having won four of his last five games in goal.
