Jets crush Ducks

Tyler Toffoli scored his first two goals since being traded to Winnipeg and the Jets defeated the Anaheim Ducks 6-0 on Friday.

Laurent Brossoit stopped 21 shots to record his second shutout of the season.

Defenseman Dylan DeMelo ended a 63-game streak without scoring, in addition to adding an assist.

Kyle Connor, Nate Schmidt and Mason Appleton also scored in the win. Josh Morrissey had three assists and Nikolaj Ehlers had two.

The Ducks lost a fifth straight game.

Goalkeeper John Gibson made 32 saves for his team.

The Jets led 1-0 after one period and 2-0 after 40 minutes.

Mark Scheifele, who missed his team’s last game because he was ill, was back in the Jets lineup. The striker celebrated his 31ste birthday Friday.

Connor opened the scoring with his 28e goal of the season, deflecting a DeMelo point shot at 16:20 in the first period.

DeMelo’s goal made it 3-0 at 4:59 in the third period. It was the defender’s second this season. DeMelo hit the target on October 14, during the Jets’ second game of the season.

Toffoli scored twice in just under three minutes, including once on the power play.

Appleton completed the scoring by scoring with six seconds left in regulation.

Talbot blocks 28 pucks as Kings beat Blackhawks 5-0

Anze Kopitar scored two goals and the Los Angeles Kings beat the Chicago Blackhawks 5-0 on Friday night.

The Kings scored four goals in the first period.

Goaltender Cam Talbot stopped 28 shots to record his third shutout of the season and his 31e in career.

Quebecer Pierre-Luc Dubois, Alex Laferriere and Jordan Spence all scored a goal and an assist.

Kopitar scored his 19e and 20e nets on assists from Quinton Byfield. It was the 13e times in 18 seasons that Kopitar reached the 20-goal plateau.

Adrian Kempe had two assists for the Kings, who are 6-0-2 in their last eight games against the Blackhawks.

After four goals on 14 shots, Arvid Soderblom gave way to Petr Mrazek with 3:41 remaining in the first period. Mrazek made 22 saves on 23 shots.

It was the 10e time this season that the Blackhawks did not score a goal in a game.

Dubois competed in a 500e game in the NHL.

Kopitar made it 3-0 at 8:03 in the first period. He scored his second goal of the game at 14:09 of play to make it 4-0.
