Brent Burns scored twice, Andrei Svechnikov scored and added two assists and the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Washington Capitals 6-2 on Friday.

The Hurricanes have scored six goals in a row and signed a fifth consecutive victory.

Seth Jarvis scored the tying goal early in the third period and Svechnikov gave the Hurricanes the lead on the power play with 7:19 remaining. Burns then scored his second goal of the game less than 90 seconds later.

Dmitry Orlov scored in an empty net against his former team.

Vasily Ponomarev scored against Darcy Kuemper in the final minute of play, earning two points in his NHL debut.

Sebastian Aho had three assists and Pyotr Kochetkov stopped 15 shots in the victory.

Kuemper allowed five goals on 33 shots for the Capitals, who have lost six of their last seven games.

Nic Dowd and Dylan Strome scored for the Capitals.

Alexander Ovechkin extended his streak of games with at least one point to four when he set up Strome’s goal on the power play.
