A third victory in a row for the Devils

Jesper Bratt had a goal and three assists to help the Devils defeat the Ottawa Senators 6-2 on Friday. This is a third victory in a row for the New Jersey club.

Brothers Luke and Jack Hughes both had a goal and two assists for the Devils. Dawson Mercer, Tyler Toffoli and Brendan Smith also made the red light and Nico Daws made 24 saves.

Drake Batherson and Jacob Bernard-Docker scored the goals for the Senators, who had won their previous two games. Joonas Korpisalo blocked 23 shots in the loss.

The Devils started the third period with a 4-1 lead. After a shorthanded sequence, they saw Nico Hischier find Smith, who was leaving the penalty box. Smith took advantage of a breakaway and beat Korpisalo with a feint before putting the puck in the back of the net.

Senators captain Brady Tkachuk reached the 300-point plateau in the National Hockey League with an assist in the first period.

Panthers beat Rangers 4-3

Sam Reinhart scored twice, Aleksander Barkov had three assists and the Florida Panthers defeated the New York Rangers 4-3 on Friday night.

Carter Verhaeghe scored the winning goal in the third period for the Panthers. Evan Rodrigues also scored for the Florida team, while Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 31 shots.

With his three assists, Barkov tied a team record. He joined Jonathan Huberdeau for first place in Panthers history with 415 career assists.

He also holds first place in team history for games played (696), goals (254) and points (669), among others.

Artemi Panarin, Will Culleye and Mika Zibanejad scored for the Rangers, who had managed to overcome 2-0 and 3-2 deficits before seeing Verhaeghe give the Panthers victory.

Jonathan Quick made 28 saves for the Rangers, who sit atop the NHL standings with a .721 winning percentage.

Red Wings defeat Predators 5-4 in overtime

Lucas Raymond scored with 2:47 left in overtime and the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Nashville Predators 5-4 on Friday.

Jake Walman had a double and added an assist for the Red Wings, who had won just two of their previous 11 games. Alex DeBrincat also had three points, hitting the target once. Dylan Larkin, for his part, found the back of the net while outnumbered.

Patrick Kane extended his streak to six games with at least one point. He reached the plateau of 1,250 points in the National Hockey League with two assists.

Alex Lyon made 33 saves to sign the victory.

Filip Forsberg and Gustav Nyquist both had two goals and an assist for the Predators. Juuse Saros stopped 18 pucks.

The Tennessee team, which lost a third game in a row, had won its first five games which ended in overtime this season.

The Blue Jackets win 6-5 against the Maple Leafs

Johnny Gaudreau scored in overtime to give the Columbus Blue Jackets a 6-5 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday.

Gaudreau took advantage of a rebound to beat goaltender Ilya Samsonov, stopping a three-game losing streak for the Ohio club. It was his seventh goal of the season.

The Blue Jackets never had the lead in this meeting.

Rookie Adam Fantilli tied the game with 6:14 left in regulation. The 19-year-old scored his 10e goal of the campaign.

Cole Sillinger, Brendan Gaunce, Dmitri Voronkov and Kent Johnson also scored for the Blue Jackets.

Elvis Merzlikins stopped 14 of 16 shots he faced before leaving the game due to a virus. Spencer Martin made 16 saves in relief.

Auston Matthews scored his 29e goal of the season — a record in the National Hockey League (NHL) — and added an assist. Samsonov blocked 15 pucks, but allowed 21 goals in his last four starts.

Mitch Marner, William Nylander, Nicholas Robertson and John Tavares were the other Maple Leafs scorers. Morgan Rielly was complicit in three goals.

Islanders win 5-1 against the Capitals

Jean-Gabriel Pageau had an evening of two goals and two assists, Quebecer Julien Gauthier had two goals and an assist and the New York Islanders had the upper hand 5-1 against the Washington Capitals on Friday.

Gauthier scored his two goals 18 seconds apart midway through the third period. He first took advantage of a long return to make the score 3-0, then he beat the opposing goalkeeper with a right-left feint right in front of the net.

Ilya Sorokin stopped 26 shots to help the Islanders improve to 7-1-3 in their most recent 11 home outings. Defender Noah Dobson also found the back of the net for the New York club.

For the Capitals, Darcy Kuemper finished the game with 24 saves after replacing Charlie Lindgren, who had to leave the game in the first period due to an upper body injury.

Nicolas Aubé-Kubel was the only one to blacken the score sheet for the Capitals, who lost their last three games.

The Avalanche defeat the Blues 2-1

Ryan Johansen and Devon Toews scored in a 2-1 victory for the Colorado Avalanche against the St. Louis Blues on Friday.

Alexander Georgiev made 29 saves for the Avalanche, who have won six of their last nine games. The club is at the top of the Central section.

Robert Thomas scored and Jordan Binnington stopped 21 shots for the Blues, who had won their previous three meetings. Missouri’s team is 5-2-0 since the arrival of interim head coach Drew Bannister.

Toews scored his fifth goal of the season with a shot from the point to give the Avalanche the lead with 2:54 left in the third period.

Johansen had previously scored by recovering the puck after a shot from former Montreal Canadiens forward Jonathan Drouin.

Stars win 5-4 against Blackhawks

Roope Hintz (24) scored the winning goal.

Roope Hintz completed his hat trick with 7.9 seconds left in overtime and the Dallas Stars defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 5-4 on Friday.

Hintz completed a play started by Jason Robertson to score the winning goal.

Joe Pavelski and Jamie Benn both scored once and added an assist for the Stars, who won their fifth straight game in front of their fans. Scott Wedgewood stopped 25 pucks.

Tyler Johnson scored twice for the Blackhawks, who have lost their last 10 road games and haven’t won this season when allowing more than three goals.

Cole Guttman and Jason Dickinson were the other scorers for the Illinois club. Petr Mrazek made 30 saves.

With two points, Pavelski brought his total to 1,034 in the National Hockey League. He moved to seventh among Americans in the history of the circuit, ahead of Doug Weight.
