Hurricanes defeat Flames 6-3
Andrei Svechnikov scored two goals and the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Calgary Flames 6-3 on Friday night.
Brady Skjei had one goal and two assists as Derek Stepan, Jesper Fast and Tony DeAngelo threaded the needle once each for the Hurricanes, who were in a game opener after a hiatus of about a week.
Steven Lorentz was the accomplice of two goals for the Hurricanes, who signed a ninth victory in their last 10 games. Frederik Andersen stopped 36 shots.
Blake Coleman and Matthew Tkachuk both had one goal and one assist while Johnny Gaudreau once hit the target for the Flames.
Dan Vladar blocked 31 pucks in front of the Alberta team, who suffered a third straight loss.

Buchnevich leads the Blues to victory
Pavel Buchnevich scored two goals and had an assist, Ville Husso stopped 26 shots and the St. Louis Blues defeated the Washington Capitals 5-1 on Friday night.
Torey Krug, Oskar Sundqvist and Ivan Barbashev also hit the mark for the Blues, who increased their record to 8-2-2 in their last 12 games.
The Missouri side are 10-0-1 in their last 11 home games. Ryan O’Reilly and Robert Thomas accumulated two assists during the meeting.
Daniel Sprong was the only scorer for the Capitals who lost for a third time in regulation in their last 12 games (6-3-3).
Ilya Samsonov allowed four goals on 16 shots before being substituted after the second period. In relief, Zachary Fucale stopped the seven shots he faced in the third period.
