Friday in the NHL | Marchessault hat trick in Golden Knights win

Jonathan Marchessault scored a hat trick, goaltender Adin Hill blocked 36 shots and the Vegas Golden Knights defeated the New York Rangers 5-2 on Friday night.

Keegan Kolesar and Sheldon Rempal also found the back of the net for the Golden Knights, who are 5-0-1 in their last six outings. Ivan Barbashev had three assists and Nicolas Roy had two.

Blake Wheeler scored and had an assist for the Rangers. Kaapo Kakko also hit the target. Igor Shesterkin stopped 15 shots.

Marchessault made it 4-1 at the start of the third period.

The Rangers pulled Shesterkin in favor of an extra player with just over four minutes left. Kakko scored on a rebound with 1:06 remaining.

Marchessault completed his second hat trick, and seventh of his career, by scoring into an empty net with 30 seconds remaining in regulation.

The Rangers were outshot 15-6 in the first period. Rempal still opened the scoring at 5:02 of play for the Golden Knights.

Wheeler tied the score 1:31 later, beating Hill on the glove side.

Panthers win 3-2 against Penguins in shootout

Aleksander Barkov and Sam Reinhart scored in a shootout and the Florida Panthers beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 on Friday night.

Jake Guentzel found the back of the net after Barkov, but Reinhart, the third to start for the Panthers, beat goalkeeper Alex Nedeljkovic to end the debate.

Evgeni Malkin forced overtime by scoring with 41.5 seconds remaining in regulation. It was a 16e goal this season for the Penguins center.

Reinhart extended his point streak to 12 when he scored his 36e goal of the campaign. The latter has 18 goals and 22 points in his last 16 games.

Reinhart leads the league in power play goals scored, with 19.

Former Penguins Evan Rodrigues also hit the target on the power play, for his eighth goal of the season.

Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 35 shots for the Panthers, who have won eight of their last 12 games.

Guentzel scored his 21e goal of the season, on the power play. It was the only goal scored by the Penguins in eight power play opportunities in the game.

Nedeljkovic stopped 30 shots.
