Connor Clifton scored the game-winning goal in the third period, his first goal in nearly a year, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stopped 25 shots and the Buffalo Sabers beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-1 on Friday.

Clifton’s point shot found itself behind Daniil Tarasov at 3:05 of the third period. The defender had not scored in 71 games.

Zemgus Girgensons also hit the target in the victory.

Dmitri Voronkov scored and Tarasov stopped 36 pucks. The Blue Jackets haven’t won two games in a row since November 22 and 24.

Voronkov scored his 15e goal of the campaign during a power play, while Kirill Marchenko collected an assist on the sequence.

Girgensons tied the game late in the first period.

Sabers defenseman Erik Johnson was not in the game due to illness.
