Andrei Svechnikov scores twice in Hurricanes win

Andrei Svechnikov scored two goals and added an assist in the Carolina Hurricanes’ 5-3 win over the Nashville Predators on Friday night.

Brady Skjei and Jaccob Slavin both had a goal and an assist while Jesperi Kotkaniemi also found the back of the net. The win brings the Canes to 2-2-2 since the All-Star Game break. Martin Necas and Sebastian Aho participated in two goals from their teammates.

Frederik Andersen made 28 saves to earn the win.

Luke Kunin, Filip Forsberg and Tanner Jeannot scored for the Predators, who suffered a fourth straight loss since the All-Star Game break. Roman Josi had three assists while Juuse Saros blocked 25 shots.

Trailing 4-1, the Predators retired their goaltender in favor of a sixth skater. The strategy paid off when Forsberg scored 24 seconds later. Then, still six against five, Jeannot closed the gap to 4-3.

Svechnikov, however, ended the Preds’ hopes by scoring the insurance goal into an empty net.

Predators center Ryan Johansen got his 500and NHL career point with an assist on Kunin’s goal.
